Bloodlust and dark forces are at work at the House of Night… Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird’s adventures at the school are about to take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be her friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this highly addictive series, in which Zoey’s mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn’t have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover about the secretive and sinister power that’s turning dead fledglings into bloodsucking monsters must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected position of having three boyfriends. Mix in more than a little forbidden desire to the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster of massive proportions. Then, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey’s horrid step-loser in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends find out, things are not always what they seem
It seems like these books are getting worse and worse, book to book. The first book was insanely addicting and I really enjoyed it, the second one was pretty good too, yet not as addicting. But this one was just… not as good. Sure, there were some things I liked, but most of the time, I was left wishing this one was as good as the first two.

Zoey continues to annoy me with her immature behavior and side comments. And if you thought she was a whore before, just wait ‘til you read this book. Her friends are still predictable, stereotypical, yet entertaining to read. Even though you are left hating most of them by the end of this book. I really don’t know what team I am on now… Heath is annoying, Erik turned into a d-bag, and Loren is… well you’ll just have to read the book to find out what he is.

The writing of this series is still not the best. It has improved on some parts, but it is mostly the same as the previous books. I’m not sure how they Casts divide the writing of these books, but I’m pretty sure I can spot the differences in the writing styles in certain parts of these books. Though, I hear that P.C. is the only one who writes them, but I also hear that she doesn’t even write some of her own adult books. Yikes, this is confusing. What I know, however, is that these books are pretty addicting, so I give that to whoever the hell writes this series.

The story in this book, though not as good as the first or second book, was still pretty good. After I got through the first hundred pages (which was pretty much a recap of the first two books), I was sucked into the House of Night world and was really interested in the characters and what was happening in the story. Not much really happens in this book, but what does happen drastically effects how the rest of the series will play out.

So, if you are a fan of the first two, you will get to read them again in the first third of this book. But after you get past that, you get a really intriguing third edition to this series that is still pretty good. Though this is my least favorite of the series so far, I have no intentions of quitting the reading of these books.

  6. For me, they just keep getting worse and worse. I still haven't read the most recent one, though. The boy drama is far from over--my pick is Stark.

  7. Goodness! Talk about contradictory, Alex!

I've never taken a closer look at these books, and I doubt I will, but I'm glad to have more insight into what they're about!

    Thanks for the review.

  8. I have the first two books in this series and still I've never read them. My mom and my sister are addicted. I'm not sure what's holding me back. Where do you rate this series among other Vampire series? I never read this one or the Vampire Academy series.
