No one knew of its existence until it was removed from the attic upstairs.
In a beautiful house that overlooks the sea, an antique clock has the power to change the course of their lives.
The power the clock resonates will not only force Destiny and ex-boyfriend David on a journey into the depths of one man's mind long dead, but into the mind of a man filled with hatred and bent on revenge.
With the only clues to the nature of the clock having disappeared into the sea, Destiny and David must retrace the steps the man had taken into the darkness, before they fall prey to the trap he had set in motion over half a century ago.
Hatred never dies.

To celebrate tomorrow's release of The Thirteenth Chime, a new young adult novel that I am pleased to have read in one sitting, the author has stopped by the blog today to talk about her feelings towards horror and paranormal in young adult literature.

A bit about Emma Michaels and YA Paranormal/Horror!
Hey everybody! Emma Michaels here, debut author of “The Thirteenth Chime”. Alex has been kind enough to let me borrow his blog for a post about Young Adult (YA) paranormal and horror! Let me start by saying, YA books have been my favorite genre for over a decade. I LOVE YA paranormal, horror, fantasy, just about everything YA! I have to say that the one thing I love most about paranormal and horror is that anything can happen. You can open a book and never know what surprises might be waiting for you!
Paranormal is filled with endless possibilities. Yes, you can read about vampires, but even then, one story may feature a vampire who would die at the slightest touch of light and whose humanity has almost reached its barest limitations. With other stories, they feature a vampire who glitters in the sunlight, as if he or she were made of a thousand diamonds, and who almost seems more human than most humans. You can read of happy endings, of worlds that could never possibly exist and yet they feel more real to you than anything in your most amazing dreams. When you open a book and read the pages within, you are letting the author guide you on a journey through a mysterious world, filled with delights.
In contrast, horror can make your heart beat so fast you hold the air within your lungs, frightened that whatever is scaring you within the pages might suddenly leap forth and come after you. You see people at their best and at their worst, and while observing them, you see their most human side. It is a side you may not even see with your closest friends, but it is a truth of character that will stay with you long after you close the book.
With YA, you will sometimes encounter those who feel that this genre should have main characters who are young adults. To me, I feel the content is most important. To me when you read YA, you will be reading something that is age appropriate and that often holds lessons to be learned. You can also have Paranormal and horror within YA that meets the above expectations and when you add all of these together, you have my own little book heaven!
With YA Paranormal/ Horror, where anything is possible, you get to feel and know the characters and you always know that the style and the content is something that won’t leave you with a bad taste in your mouth (depending on what you ate while reading). I just can’t help but love it! You can open a book expecting an average story only to find out the love interest is a Selkie or a brand new twist on a werewolf you had never even considered before. You get to explore entirely new worlds with the main characters as your guide and I truly hope that all of you will love exploring the world so much like our own, but with its own twists and turns in “The Thirteenth Chime”!
Thank you so much for your time and for reading!!!!
