No one knew of its existence until it was removed from the attic upstairs. In a beautiful house that overlooks the sea, an antique clock has the power to change the course of their lives. The power the clock resonates will not only force Destiny and ex-boyfriend David on a journey into the depths of one man's mind long dead, but into the mind of a man filled with hatred and bent on revenge. With the only clues to the nature of the clock having disappeared into the sea, Destiny and David must retrace the steps the man had taken into the darkness, before they fall prey to the trap he had set in motion over half a century ago. Hatred never dies.
The moment I got this book, I started it. And I never stopped. Not once. I read this book in one sitting, which is more than I can say for any other book. This may be because there was something about it that made it impossible to put down. The Thirteenth Chime is action-packed from the first page and never slows down.
Destiny, like most of the characters in this book was a little flat for me. But I don’t think she is the real protagonist, David is. The story really revolves around David, who is dynamic and the perfect example of what every character in this book should have been. I just hope to see more development in the future books. I am totally team Scott, by the way. I want Stephanie to end up with David.
One thing that makes this book so cool is that it is written by a book blogger. My new inspiration, Emma Michaels definitely knows how to write a book. The writing was fast paced and never gave you a breather. You had to know what creepy thing would happen next. The dialogue, however doesn’t seem very natural. The things they say don’t sound like things people would actually say in real life. I can’t wait to see where she goes in the future Sense of Truth novels, as I am sure they will be even more amazing than this one.
This book definitely knows how to be scary. I read it late at night and was terrified to get out of bed when I finished, as I felt like something was going to grab me and pull me under. Yes, this book reduced me to a terrified little baby. If you decide to read The Thirteenth Chime, which you should, definitely don’t go looking for a light read because The Thirteenth Chime is definitely not light, it is dark, very very dark.
I can’t get across enough the fact that you need to read this book for it’s cast of characters that take a backseat to the creepy plot, great writing, and terrifying story. Did I mention this book is scary yet? No, well it definitely is. But that doesn't take away from the fact that this book, the first book I have ever read in one sitting, is one that I will soon be recommending to everyone I know and everyone I don’t. Friday the Thirteenth is a day you should remember because after reading The Thirteenth Chime, it is a day that you will never forget.
