Matched, by Ally Condie

Title: Matched (Matched, #1)
Author: Ally Condie
Publisher: Dutton
Release: November 30, 2010

In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die. Cassia has always trusted their choices. It’s barely any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one . . . until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path no one else has ever dared follow—between perfection and passion.

Imagine a world where you have no control. You are alive, but not really living. Where every choice is made for you. You don’t get to decide what to eat, wear. You don’t get to choose where you live, where you work. You don’t get to choose who to love. Because in a world where Society controls everything, you live the best life possible. Or so you think.

This new dystopian world was really unique. Usually, I have a hard time adjusting to dystopian books, but I had no problem slipping right into this new and incredible world. I cannot even imagine what this world must really be like for the people in this book.

Cassia was a very good protagonist. She has lived her whole life in the palm of Society, but when they tell her who she is destined to be with, she decides to defy them in a way nobody has ever done before. She decides to go against what Society has told her. She decides to rebel. Personally, I really liked Xander at first. I really thought he was a good match and a good Match for Cassia, but when Ky comes along, my mind slowly begins to change, much like Cassia’s did.

This book was incredibly written. Ally Condie is no stranger to writing, but this was my first experience with her work and while her other books seem kinda chick-lit-ish, I will probably be checking out what other worlds she has created because she definitely knows how to do it right.

Once again, the Society in this book was extremely well thought out and I loved… and hated living in this completely altered world. I cannot wait to see where the story goes in future books because… Oh my god! The ending! What a cliffhanger.

Read this book for its incredible new dystopian world. Read this book for its great characters. Read this book for its killer romance. Read this book for its amazing love triangles. Read this book because it is very well written. I don’t really care why you do it, just read this book!

  4. This book seems to be a love it or hate it thing. I've seen quite a few reviewers that say they couldn't even finish the book, but then just as many adored it. I'll definitely be reading it though. Thanks for the review!
