Crossroads Interviews: Angie Frazier + Kiki Hamilton

So far there have been two Everlasting novels published. Do you plan on writing a third, or possibly more?

I do have thoughts and ideas for a third novel, but nothing is lined up at the moment. I’m concentrating on a few new YA projects that I’m really excited about and will hopefully have more to share soon.
What can you tell us about The Mastermind Plot?

This is the second Suzanna Snow mystery, and in this installment we see Zanna take on a string of Boston arsons, art theft, her pompous uncle, Detective Bruce Snow, and a stranger who seems to be trailing Zanna closely. I’m really excited about this mystery!

What is the biggest difference for you in writing the Everlasting novels compared to the Suzanna Snow mysteries?

The romantic, death, and supernatural angles in Everlasting and The Eternal Sea all bring in so much conflict and angst that is simply not there when I’m writing Suzanna’s stories. It’s definitely easier to breathe when I’m entrenched in Zanna’s head!

How has your experience with book bloggers been?

It’s been a fantastic experience. I’m always astounded by the dedication to discussing books and the support you show authors. You guys really love literature and authors, and are so great at spreading the word about both the “big” books and the hidden gems.

The Faerie Ring is based in the late 1800’s. What made you decide to base the book so far in the past?
I love the mystery of Victorian London. The dichotomy of knowledge between great technological advances and the deep belief in mysticism. I also love the idea of not knowing all the ‘facts’ of history – of the untold stories that have either slipped through the cracks or not been told because if they were, everything would change…

As of now, there will be four books in the Faerie Ring series. Had you always planned The Faerie Ring to be a four-book series, or was originally supposed to be just one book?
It originally started as one book but when I got to the end it was obvious the story wasn’t over. I’ve actually been combining books two and three recently. I know the series will have at least three books. We’ll see beyond that.

The Faerie Ring is your debut novel, so can you tell us a little bit about your experience as a debut novelist?
I have been SO SO fortunate – my debut year has been fabulous in every way!  I have to thank all the bloggers and readers out there who have expressed interest in THE FAERIE RING by writing me sweet notes and spreading the love. I also have to thank my publisher, Kathleen Doherty of Tor Teen and my editor, Susan Chang, for their fantastic support in getting the word out about my book. Also, I’ve been lucky to belong to two awesome groups:  The Class of 2k11 and The Elevensies, which are comprised of other authors debuting in 2011. I’m very grateful to have been able to share the journey with them, as well.

Tiki’s name is just one letter apart from your own. Do you see a lot of yourself in her character?
Well, this sounds silly (or totally Freudian) but I didn’t even realize the similarity until after the fact. I’d already written the story and several months later when I was looking for web domains my real name was everywhere, so I picked one of my very favorite names as a pen name, which also happened to be fairly uncommon. It wasn’t until months later I realized the two were similar.

Thanks so much for having me over!  xo Kiki
