Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal.
I was looking for a lot in Fracture. The hype it had been getting definitely influenced that,
but so did the fact that I was looking for an emotional contemporary read. And
while I can totally see why so many are loving it, Fracture isn’t quite what I thought it would be, and I found myself
disappointed by that.
I was looking for a strictly realistic book in Fracture. Most of the book is written in
that vein, but there was also a paranormal side of it that got a lot more
attention than I was hoping it would. I didn’t want to read a paranormal book
when I picked up Fracture, and while
it was pretty realistic, I just got annoyed whenever the paranormal side of
things started to come out.
Fracture is very
emotionally intense, however. If you don’t mind the supernatural activity
incorporated into it, you will probably really like Fracture. I know for a fact that I would have loved it if I was
prepared for the paranormal side of things.
Megan Miranda’s writing was fantastic. It is fast-paced,
emotional, and I would love to read more from her. Even if Fracture wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, I have full
confidence that she could create something that I would love completely.
Delaney was very easy for me to relate to. Even though she
goes through a lot of things I obviously haven’t, I really liked her and
sympathized with her completely. Similarly, the other characters in Fracture were well-written and real.
What I did not like in regards to Fracture’s
characters was the love triangle. I just felt like it was so unnecessary and
that it took away from the story that was trying to be told. For me, I always
knew who I wanted Delaney to end up with.
Fracture is an
emotional, fast-paced debut that I am sure will win over many, many readers.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t what I was looking for when I read it, but that doesn’t
mean it isn’t a good book. It’s a great book, in fact, but it wasn’t what I was
looking for.

Sounds good but i myself am wondering if it will be what i want to read.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, some other people said that the paranormal side in this book was less desirable than the contemporary side. I am hoping for some mystery in it. :) Great review!
ReplyDeleteoh, BTW is it US or Intl?
ReplyDeleteThis has been on my to read list for ever (hope to win)
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to read this one forever too. I don't so much mind triangles as long as they are believable and not dumped on us or seemingly forced. Would love to give this one a go. Thanks for the giveaway and review!
ReplyDeleteWow! I've been getting the complete opposite reaction from a lot of people. The people that I've seen that have been bugged with this one expected more paranormal to it.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to read it and be the judge for myself.
Thanks for your thoughts!

ReplyDeleteFracture sounds like it has a bit of everything I like. First I am a huge fan of paranormal reads and there is definitely paranormal activity with Delaney and Troy being pulled towards the dead. There's mystery with how Delaney survived being in the ice water for so long and is perfectly fine. And then he emotional contemporary with going through something so traumatic and also with finding romance. I am definitely excited for Fracture I can't wait til I read it.
ReplyDeleteI've heard a few people complaining about the love triangle. I will definitely be reading this but gosh why must authors always do love triangles? :/
ReplyDeletetnx 4 the review
ReplyDeletesoo hoping 2 read it soon
I've read a lot about this book and I hear from you and everyone that it is really emotional. I don't normally do well with those types of books, but I really like the premise and I definitely want to give it a shot!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to this one with all the hype, but I'm getting a little tired of all -mostly-contemporary-but-we-slipped-a-little-paranormal-in-too. I'll just try to wait for this one until the mood strikes me so I don't set it up to fail. Great review :]
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to this one, so I hope it lives up to my expectations!
ReplyDeleteWonderful review Alex! Very honest! yet, Fracture does seems to be 100% my type of book! Cant wait to get to it! =D

I've taken a look at the transcript of Fracture and I wasn't quite pleased with the love triangle either. It could have been left out and been an amazing read. Thanks for the honest review! :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't heard very good things about this one, but I want to try it myself, maybe I will love it. best wishes..
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. I've been wanting to read this and now I know to at least wait until it's at my library. That's disappointing that you had such great expectations for this book and it did not live up to it, but it still sounds interesting and I do not mind paranormal/love triangles (even though I am so sick of them and anytime I read a YA without one I always seem to enjoy it way more than the love triangle books...). Thanks for the give away as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cool concept, can't wait to read it!
